How Chiropractic Can Help Turn a Breech Baby (Without Forcing Anything!)

You just left your OB or midwife appointment and heard the words no pregnant mama wants to hear: “Your baby is breech.” Cue the Google search spiral, the worry, the last-minute plan B’s…

Take a deep breath. You’ve got options.

While it’s true that most babies flip head-down by 32–34 weeks, some need a little extra help—and that’s where chiropractic care comes in. It’s not about “flipping the baby,” it’s about helping your body create the space baby needs to move.

What Causes a Breech Position?

Sometimes, a baby stays breech because of intrauterine constraint—a fancy term for when there’s tension or misalignment in the pelvis, uterus, or surrounding tissues that limit how much baby can move. This could be caused by:

  • A tilted or imbalanced pelvis

  • Tight ligaments or uterine tension

  • Past injuries or even the way you sit or sleep

When your body isn’t balanced, baby’s positioning options are limited.

The Webster Technique: Our Go-To for Breech Babies

At our office, we use the Webster Technique, a gentle, specialized chiropractic protocol that helps align the pelvis and release tension in the surrounding ligaments (especially the round ligaments and sacrotuberous ligament). This creates more space and mobility, encouraging baby to move into the ideal head-down position—on their own!

We also combine this with Spinning Babies breech protocols, giving you at-home tools to complement the work we’re doing in-office.

Is It Safe?

Yes—chiropractic care during pregnancy, especially the Webster Technique, is safe, comfortable, and effective when done by a trained provider. It’s not about “pushing” or forcing baby—it’s about restoring balance in your body so that baby can settle into their best position for birth.

When Should I Start?

We recommend starting care as early as possible—even before there's a breech concern. But if your baby is confirmed breech, the ideal time to begin care is around 28–32 weeks. That gives us time to gently support your body and allow baby the best chance to move into an optimal position. (That said, we’ve still seen great results even at 36–38 weeks!)

What If I’ve Already Scheduled an External Version?

That’s okay! Chiropractic care can still be incredibly beneficial before (and even after) a version. Many moms find that combining the two increases their chances of success—and helps them feel more confident going into birth.
